Interview with Master Perfumer, Sofia BardelIi
There are no shy and retiring wallflowers here; Imperium is a fragrance for those who know what they want and are not afraid to go after their goals.
We spent some time with Master Perfumer Sofia Bardelli to discuss this extraordinary creation and the inspiration behind it.
How long have you been in the perfume industry?
I’ve been in the industry since 2017, when I started to learn everything about fragrance in Grasse, France.
What was the inspiration behind Imperium?
My inspiration for the fragrance Imperium was that I had to create something that represented the supreme power that was held by intellectual people in Ancient Rome. So, I wanted to create something sophisticated and elegant, an empowering scent that could suit a lot of people.
How would you say the stories of Ancient Rome inspired you when making a modern creation?
Thinking about ancient Rome is like travelling back in time. And of course, in ancient Rome, it was a really important pillar of Italian culture. It’s important for me, for example, because most of the things we have in modern culture were made by Romans.
And more specifically, how do the notes help you tell the story behind the fragrance?
A strong ambery base was extremely important to recreate the power of Ancient Rome and the power of Imperium, so I started from there. I then added a little touch of vanilla from Madagascar. Everything enveloped a white floral bouquet made of neroli, jasmine, and lily of the valley with a touch of saffron. A really strong top note of bergamot and a spicy coriander.
How does Imperium make you feel?
When I smell Imperium, I feel elegant and sophisticated. But also I feel empowered. I am more driven by success wearing Imperium. This was the main scope for this fragrance.
Where would you wear this fragrance?
I would wear Imperium to the office or to go out with friends. I think it’s a versatile fragrance that suits many occasions.
Did you know Imperium would become one of Electimuss’s best-selling fragrances?
Actually, no, I didn’t expect it to be this successful.
And why do you think it’s been so successful?
Because people like the modern ambery accord with the freshness of the citrus.
Imperium suits all seasons, but is there a season where Imperium excels?
It excels particularly during summer because the skin is heated and the citrus top notes refresh the skin. But the ambery accord in particular fixes to the skin for a long time, and with the heat it gives you a super powerful dry down.
Do the high-quality ingredients contribute to the longevity and projection?
These kinds of raw materials have a lot of faucets. They really help the strength of the dry down.
